Defend Alliance provides strategic consulting for business growth, regional economic development and advocacy for small defense technology businesses in the Upper Midwest. We focus on high-growth, advanced technology industries in the defense, natural resources and food security markets that have a strong relationship to Federal acquisition requirements and priorities.
The asymmetric threats NATO faces are diverse, interconnected and evolving: from cyber attacks to chemical, biological and radiological incidents; terrorism; conflict, instability and insecurity in the Alliance’s southern neighbourhood; and global threats such as climate change, health emergencies and food insecurity. NATO’s defence capability is a crucial tool in addressing these challenges.
In addition, NATO is a leading actor in international politics, promoting democratic values and ensuring that the principles of peace, security and cooperation are upheld on the world stage. If diplomatic efforts fail, NATO has the military power to undertake crisis-management operations under the collective defence clause in its founding treaty – Article 5 of the Washington Treaty – alone or in cooperation with other countries and organisations.
NATO’s success depends on the full commitment of all Allies. Allies have made an enduring pledge to invest at least 2 percent of their GDP in defence, which allows the Alliance to meet its existing and future needs across land, air, maritime and cyber domains. Allies are also strengthening their resilience to address the growing risks of Russia’s coercion, aggression and hybrid warfare and in supporting non-NATO partners to counter malign influence and aggression.
